Beautiful day for an evening rodeo

The 34th Old Time Rodeo was held July 31, 2010.

Results and photos are in post below this one.

Temps ranged about 10 degrees cooler than the last few years at around 90 degrees.  Shade from the trees that line the hill above the arena was fabulous.

Thank you, once again, to Cathy Johnson for getting those trees planted back in 1982 or 1983.  And, yes, the lower limbs do need to be cut and Dave Bradford offered to do it this fall.

I think I saw some limbs being drug out, so whoever had a chainsaw in their truck and used it to trim that huge maple in the afternoon before the rodeo – thank you.  Yes, the limbs blocked the view of the arena.

A Grand Entry kicked-off the Old Time Rodeo at 5 p.m. with the Mutton Bustin’ the first event.  There were only 30 sheep available to ride, and unfortunately, a dozen or more youth were turned away as there were more potential riders than sheep.

Thank you John Brinton for donating $150 to pay for all 30 Mutton Busters’ entry fees.

This year, the SVPP board took a risk and decided to use the Pleasure Park logo of a cartoon bucking horse that Skip Hanna drew a good 40 years ago on the buckle.  We were really pleased at how beautiful the buckles from the Tres Rios Company turned out.  So were many of the winners.

Gail Lavey with three-month-old Kinsley Lavey of Shasta Valley watched several events from behind the bucking chutes.

Jr. Pleasure Park Drill Team performed during the rodeo.  Drill Masters are Michelle and Jay Rush.

Riders are:

Leading the drill was Olivia Winkelhausen and Emily Skinner.  Other members were Carson Herold, Keri Luiz, Trinity Andrews, Jasmine Bigham, Cassie Day, Collene Macleod, Keith Johnson, Jaylee Johnson, Kelsie Eastlick, Gwen Johnson and Austin Winkelhausen.

Thank you to the many buckle sponsors !!!
